the following news from off Viokehnrg to Sunday Ten rebel companies had cut theleveeat a point between Lake Providence and Grant Lake The water is passing over and flooding the country The object was to prevent the Union forces from operating on the creek between Lake Providence and Bayou Macon a slough narrow and full of stumps Our forces are clearing it out rom cutting the levees the water rose three feet in the slough but if men fail dredges can be used The responsibility of this flooding the country and destroying millions of property rests upon the Con federates alone General Ellet's Marine Brigade arrived also this morning This service consists of the steamers Autocrat airfield Baltic and Rains and others and is to act against the guerrillas in keeping the river open being an entii army in itself and provi decl with infantry cavalry and artillery General Ellet commands in person Cap tain George White of Chicago is Quar termaster The Autocrat is the flagship The airchild Kentuckians late from Texas give a gloomy account of affairs there They met 2000 of men who had de serted and swore 1 returnino' They consider the Confedera cy on its last legs There is great destitu tion and suffering everywhere At a first class hotel in Atlanta Georgia the fare was beef without salt roasted sweet pota toes and coffee made jpf burnt molasses for which they were charged $250 per day Well to do farmers having substitutes in the army and women were the only per sons suffered to remain at home The poor people desire peace on any terms Where will the next State air be Held This is a question that has been put to us recently The answer was due the peo ple of Ohio on tbe adjournment of the Jan uary meeting of the Board of Agriculture Cleveland before that time had the strongest claims The success of the air last fall led the State Board to tender tbe repetition of it in that city if a bond of $3000 would be met by Clevelanders and presented to the January meeting Thii they failed to do The location was deferred in January to ac commodate the shallow pockets of the gen tlemen of the orest with the un derstanding that if $5000 were raised in a short time they should still have tho air Up to this writing the proffer has been treat ed with indifference and no one knows whore Ohio will hold her next air in 1SG3 Knowing tbe prior claims of Cleveland Columbus like a quiet hasnoturged the location here The Board last fall paid to citizens of Cleveland the gross sum of $12000 over and above tbe subscription whilst other State Boards as a general rule pay nothing other than premiums to the city in which the air is held The papers of that city even admit thatthe air ot 1862 left in their lap the handsome sum of from $80000 to $100000 Aud yet they have embarrassed the State Board up to this time by their supine silence Shall Columbus any longer forget her in terests She can turn over to the Board and we are informed has offered the sum of $5000 to secure the air Let us go to work and hold the air of 1S63 in the Capital City It is true that we have no particular need of the $100000 of clear cash but we do need a little oil on the wheels of trade Shall we not wake up to our The above which we clip from the State Journal should have the effect to inspire our citizens in the effort to raise the sum required in order to secure the holding of the Medina We have since obtained further particulars in connection with the affair In order to explain the circumstances of the robbery it is necessary to go back some four years At that time a man named Hiram Bronson was carrying on the most extensive dry goods store in Medina He took anoth er store on a debt and appointed one of his clerks named Geo Smith to take charge of it There being considerable German custom it became necessary to employ a clerk who understood that language Mr Smith employed a German named John Ukle He proved to bo steady and industri ous and remained in the store for over two years At the end of son desiring to retire sold out both Smith The latter store and rented the other to a grocery man Shortly after young Uklo left tho store and came to Cleveland where ho worked in livery stable A few months ago ho return ed to Medina and went again into the em ploy of Mr Smith in the store About six weeks ago Mr Smith was killed about 2X miles from Medina while out cooning He and his companions had treed a coon and one of them bad cut the tree down As the tree was about falling Mr Smith attempted to save a favorite dog that was in tho way of the falling tree and was struck by the tree receiving injuries that resulted in his death When the squirrel went to the de fense them will will it became necessary to take an invoice of the goods in the store Then it was that the discovery made that about $800 worth of goods were missing Although the robbery was not charged upon Ukle he be came alarmed and on Wednesday last left Medina and came to this city attached to him at once and officer Ol cott was sent after him His arrest and that of his brother occurred as related in yester day Leader A man named Henry Warner who is implicated in the rob bery came from Medina with the Ukle broth ers The officers were after Warner last night and have probably caught him ere this He was in the city yesterday Upon information sent from Medina a let
